Highlife Music Archive Launched at the Department of Music, School of Performing Arts, College of Humanities, UG

On Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024, a significant milestone in cultural sustainability was achieved with the official launch of a Highlife Music Archive by the Department of Music, School of Performing Arts, College of Humanities (CoH), University of Ghana, Legon. The archive is the first of its kind in any academic institution in Ghana and other parts of the West African subregion where highlife music is also popular.

Prof. George Worlasi Kwasi Dor, a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow, in the company of the Acting Dean of the School of Performing Arts and the Head, Department of Music, paid a courtesy call on Professor Daniel Frimpong Ofori, Provost, College of Humanities.
Prof. Dor, a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow from the University of Mississippi, USA, is paying a 90-day visit to the Department of Music.

School of Performing Arts Commemorates International Theatre Day Celebration

The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Ghana marked International Theatre Day by highlighting the global significance of arts and theatre, focusing on the theme , “Looking Back to Look Forward: The State of Theatre in Ghana.”

Discussions centred on strategies to promote the arts and theatre industry internationally while enhancing the overall ecosystem. The event also featured a special acting performance in honour of the celebration, demonstrating the vibrancy of theatre in Ghana.
