Inauguration of Advisory Board, College of Humanities, University of Ghana, Legon.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah-Amfo has inaugurated a 15-member Advisory Board of the College of Humanities which will be chaired by Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

At the ceremony held on the 10th of August, 2022, she noted that the Board was a very important and strategic partner of the University of Ghana, in its quest to give world-class training to students to prepare them for the world of work and also global citizenship.

Prof. Amfo said that she is looking forward to receiving inputs from the new Board’s deliberations. She is therefore hopeful for a fruitful tenure and prays that the board will collectively explore new and innovative ways to help the College of Humanities and by extension the University of Ghana, to achieve its goals in providing and promoting university education, learning and research.

She said that College Advisory Boards were created with the overarching function to provide advise based on current development perspectives, and experiences from global trends. The College of Humanities Advisory Board consisting of individuals with diverse expertise and experiences who are not active members of the university, have been put in place to advice on the relevance of the college to enhance its sustainability.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari on behalf of colleague members, thanked the management of the University Council and top management of the university for the confidence reposed in them and for the call to duty to serve on the College Advisory Board in the University of Ghana. He said, that the call to duty has come at an appropriate time given the unique challenges facing the global economy and the search for unorthodox solutions for those challenges.

Dr. Opoku-Afari in pledging his full support as well as that of his colleagues, said, that they will develop strategies, assist in creating the needed link between the college and key stakeholders, guide and help maintain the image and sustainability of the College of Humanities.  Other members present at the ceremony also pledged their support for the success of the Board.

The College Secretary of the College of Humanities, Mrs. Mavis Otoo-Ayeh in moving the vote of thanks expressed her gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and Management of the University of Ghana and also thanked the Provost of the College, Professor Daniel Frimpong Ofori, for ably leading the process to finality.

The brief programme was held at the Cedi Conference Centre, Department of Economics, College of Humanities, University of Ghana, Legon.
