Fourth College of Humanities Awards

Employee reward and recognition have been proven to improve organisational values, enhance team efforts, increase customer satisfaction, and motivate appropriate behaviours amongst members of staff. Therefore, in line with the foregoing, the College of Humanities Awards scheme was established in the University of Ghana’s largest college in 2022 to recognise and reward exemplary behaviour and performance among employees across all units of the college.

AWARD CATEGORIES

This year's award categories are as follows:

  1. Excellence in Leadership Award
  2. Meritorious Achievement Award
  3. Best Worker Award (All units within the college)

    • Senior Administrative/ Professional Staff Category (Non-Academic Senior Members)
      • Best Administrator

  4. Distinguished Teacher Award (Academic Senior Members): Male & Female

CATEGORIES OF NOMINATED AWARDS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Best Worker Award

1.1 Junior Staff Category

The Award

The award recognizes excellence among Junior Staff of the college.  It is open to all Junior Staff (JS) who are confirmed staff and have worked for not less than three (3) years from the date of first appointment in any unit within the university. 

Eligibility Criteria

The criteria for assessment of candidates should include:

  1. Punctuality and regularity.
  2. Punctiliousness (attention to detail).
  3. Commitment and willingness to accept additional responsibility.
  4. Reliability, loyalty, and honesty.
  5. Consistent and substantial demonstration of ability and willingness to work positively, respectfully, and effectively with students, colleagues, superiors, and subordinates (where applicable).
  6. Evidence of significantly improved customer service.
  7. Demonstration of consistently seeking to improve the quality of work assigned.

Nominations

  • There shall be a call for nominations opened for four (4) weeks.
  • A completed nomination form shall be submitted with a nomination statement on performance, conduct, and accomplishments over the period under review.
  • Only duly completed and endorsed nomination forms shall be considered by the Selection Committee.
  • Staff can either nominate themselves or be nominated by other faculty/ staff within the college.
1.2 Senior Staff Category

The Award

The award recognizes excellence among Senior Staff of the college. It is open to all Senior Staff (SS) who are confirmed staff and have worked for a minimum period of not less than three (3) years from the date of first appointment in any unit of the University.

Eligibility Criteria

The criteria for assessment of candidates include:

  1. Punctuality and regularity.
  2. Punctiliousness (attention to detail).
  3. Commitment and willingness to accept additional responsibility.
  4. Reliability, loyalty, and honesty.
  5. Consistent and substantial demonstration of ability and willingness to work positively, respectfully, and effectively with students, colleagues, superiors, and subordinates (where applicable).
  6. Evidence of significantly improved customer service.
  7. Demonstration of consistently seeking to improve the quality of work assigned.
  8. Demonstrated leadership skills.

Nominations

  • There shall be a call for nominations opened for four (4) weeks.
  • A completed nomination form shall be submitted with a nomination statement on performance, conduct, and accomplishments over the period under review.
  • Only duly completed and endorsed nomination forms shall be considered by the Selection Committee.
  • Staff can either nominate themselves or be nominated by other faculty/ staff within the college.
1.3 Senior Member (Administrative/ Professional) Category

The Award

There shall be two separate awards for Non-Academic Senior Members, namely:

  • Best Administrator
  • Best Professional Staff

The award shall be open to all non-academic Senior Members. For Senior Member non-academic, the following criteria shall apply:

  1. Evidence of leadership
  2. Demonstration of characteristics that foster professionalism in the administrative/professional role.
  3. Demonstrable Mentorship
  4. Demonstrable emotional intelligence
  5. Embodiment of the values of an Administrator/Professional Staff in the following ways:
    1. Possesses excellent communication skills.
    2. Collaborates with colleagues on tasks.
    3. Good at problem-solving
    4. A strong leader who shows initiative and creativity
    5. Has developed processes and/or procedure(s) that have positively impacted the Unit or the College as a whole, by enhancing productivity, efficiency, and quality.
    6. Punctiliousness (attention to detail).
    7. Punctuality and regularity.
    8. Commitment and willingness to accept additional responsibility.
    9. Reliability, loyalty, and honesty.
    10. Consistent and substantial demonstration of ability and willingness to work positively, respectfully, and effectively with students, colleagues, superiors, and subordinates (where applicable).
    11. Evidence of significantly improved customer service.
    12. Demonstration of consistently seeking to improve the quality of work assigned.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for nominations, one must be a confirmed staff and must have worked for not less than three (3) years from the date of first appointment in any unit within the university.

  • A completed nomination form shall be submitted with a nomination statement on performance, conduct, and accomplishments over the period under review.
