New Provost, College of Humanities Meets with Deans and Directors

The newly appointed Provost of the College of Humanities, Professor Joseph Awetori Yaro, has met with Deans and Directors to present his vision and strategic plan for the college.

The new Provost was greeted by the heads of units within the college at the new conference room of the Kojo Senanu Arts and Languages building. 

Professor Yaro began by acknowledging the college's large size as well as its rich history and the achievements of its faculty and students. He then outlined his vision for the future, emphasizing a leadership that is bold, innovative and transformative. He said that the vision can be achieved if together we streamline our operations and adapt them to align with core values of the University of Ghana which are integrity, commitment, respect and loyalty.

Professor Yaro presented a comprehensive strategic plan, focusing on:

  • Creating a vibrant environment for research and community engagement

  • Molding academic excellence through the highest international standards of interactive teaching and learning

He stated that he will strive to create a thriving environment in line with the University of Ghana’s vision, offer transformative leadership with integrity, foster teambuilding, preserve the visibility and corporate image of the college, maintain grantsmanship, build a customer-friendly support staff and ensure career and life balance.

He stressed the need for efficiency and decentralization, excellent customer relations, commendation and recognition of faculty and staff through award schemes as well as improve the relationship between faculty and staff.

On the need for strong teambuilding and transparency, he declared that "It is often easy to enforce policies when they are collectively arrived at or agreed upon."

The Provost invited feedback and suggestions from the attendees who were both in-person and online. The Deans and Directors, engaged in a lively discussion, sharing insights on issues to be considered and ideas for implementing the new vision and strategic plan.

As the meeting concluded, Professor Yaro emphasized his commitment to collaboration and transparency, ensuring that every stakeholder would be involved in shaping the college's future.

The meeting was moderated by the College Registrar, Benedict Fosu Adjei, and in attendance were the College Finance Officer, Ms. Patricia Tay, College Materials Officer, Mrs Constance Kocke, College Human Resource Officer, Ms. Regina Adagbedu. 

Also present were Assistant Registrars in charge of Human Resource, Mr. Elisha Kyirem, Mrs Betty Kallson and Ms. Wendy Quaye and Assistant Registrar in charge of General Administration and Public Affairs, Ms. Beatrice E. Awotwi-Pratt.
