The third edition of the College of Humanities Awards has taken place, recognising and rewarding the outstanding efforts of faculty, staff and doctoral researchers who demonstrated exemplary behavior and performance over the academic year. The ceremony, held at the ISSER Conference Hall, saw a total of thirty-nine faculty, administrative staff, and doctoral researchers from CoH schools, institutes, centres and departments, as well as other UG units, receive awards including citations, certificates, cash prizes, smartphones, and laptops across nine award categories. In an opening statement, the College Secretary, Mr. Benedict Fosu Adjei, welcomed all attendees and lauded the Provost and members of the awards committee for their unwavering dedication in realising the vision of the College. He outlined that the event, which has grown in significance since its inception in 2022 underscores the commitment of the College to acknowledging and honouring the exceptional accomplishments of its faculty, staff and students.
Declaring the purpose of the gathering, the Provost, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori emphasised that, “a productive organisation is one that has productive employees”, hence, the introduction of the awards scheme to make the employees of the College feel motivated and happy, which will in turn translate into productivity. Prof. Ofori recounted that the second edition of the awards ceremony held in 2023, had eight categories. However, an additional category was introduced this year to recognise and award dedicated faculty and staff who had made a significant impact. In his remarks, the Chairperson for the event, Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research Innovation and Development (RID), expressed his delight in being present at the awards ceremony and applauded the efforts of the Provost and his team for executing the awards ceremony for a third time. He indicated that recognizing the efforts and contributions of the college’s faculty and staff demonstrates the commitment of the University of Ghana and, particularly, the College of Humanities to the growth and development of its human resources.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures within the University community, including Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Registrar; Dr. Yvonne Ayerki Lamptey, Director HRODD; Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyako-Dankwa, Director of Academic Affairs; and Mrs. Bernice Beauty Agudu, Director of Finance. Also present were Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, event sponsors, faculty and staff from various units within the university, as well as family and friends of the awardees.
