A delegation of three from the University of Gdańsk, Poland, accompanied by four faculty members from the University of Ghana School of Law, paid a courtesy call on the Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori on Wednesday, December 13th, 2023. The Head of Delegation, Dr. Marcin Wiszowaty, a Constitutional Lawyer and Vice Dean for International Cooperation and Development at the University of Gdańsk, in his address, indicated that the faculty of law at the University of Gdańsk has, over the years, fostered great relationships with other faculties and therefore believed that their collaboration with the University of Ghana School of Law would promote partnerships with other faculties within the University of Ghana. He also stated that soon, a decision would be made on the first joint programs between the two schools in International Financial Law and Environmentally Sustainable Development. He also briefed the Provost on the University’s international week, which was held two weeks ago and hosted 35 participants from 8 countries, including Ghana. In his conclusion, he added that there are ongoing procedures to build ties with the nearest Polish Embassy located in Nigeria to facilitate visa acquisition processes for UG faculty and students when the need arises.
Prof. Raymond A. Atuguba, Dean of the University of Ghana (UG) School of Law, stated that he believes this novel partnership between the University of Gdańsk and the University of Ghana has great potential and is looking forward to the official signing of the agreement between the two universities. He indicated that the two main things that the school hopes to achieve are: the exchange of faculty, staff and students, which is currently ongoing, and a joint curriculum development and teaching system both online and in-person. Currently, two lecturers from the University of Gdańsk are scheduled to deliver lectures to undergraduate students of the UG School of Law during their brief visit. This is to serve as a pre-test for the joint teaching system with hopes of expanding it in future to Masters degree programs.
In welcoming the delegation, the Provost, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori, assured the team of his unwavering support for the partnership between the University of Gdańsk and the University of Ghana (UG) School of Law. He further hoped that this joint learning opportunity would go a long way to bridge the diversity gap between the two countries and encouraged the team to keep up the good work. Present at the short ceremony were Prof. Panfil Przemyslaw and Prof. Edvardas Juchnevicius both practising Financial Lawyers from the University of Gdańsk, Poland. Also, present from the UG School of Law were the School Administrator, Mrs. Susie N. Lamptey and Ms. Nadia Sosu from the International Partnerships Unit at the UG School of Law.
